The Rassweiler Lab is committed to cultivating and preserving a supportive, inclusive, and equitable climate. We are dedicated to improving and fostering diversity within marine science and biology and particularly in promoting inclusion of underserved and underrepresented groups. We value the unique contributions of researchers from different backgrounds and support the participation of all people regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, education, culture, socioeconomic status, age, ability, family and marital status, and beliefs.

We encourage lab members to engage in efforts to increase diversity in STEM and to conduct education and outreach for diverse communities. Our efforts so far include:

  1. Sharing our research through participation in community events that reach a broad and diverse audience,

  2. Partnering with and recruiting from campus organizations, such as the FSU Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the Women in Math, Science and Engineering Program, targeted at promoting, encouraging and supporting underrepresented groups in STEM

  3. Providing a safe, supportive, accessible atmosphere within the lab and in classrooms at FSU through mentoring and teaching.

As we continue to gain knowledge and insight into the disparities that exist within our field, we will be making conscious efforts to improve our research, teaching, recruitment, and service activities to be more inclusive and to expand our reach and impact.
